Walked into town next to check out the surf shops - nice wandering about. Came back to the beach then. Jim perused maps in the car while I layed out on the grass in the sun. Eventually I was joined by a friendly local - Adam. Two hang gliders sailed in to land on the beach - Jim got some info from them. We met Adam's pal, Willie, and had a beer with them in the park, agreeing to meet them later at the pub, which we did... the less "fancy" side of the bar, with many young locals & pool tables & jukebox. Drank plenty of beer and hung out talking w/ A & W.
Later it rained a bit, and we decided to just get a tent site at the base of the mountain; right on the beach - beautiful! (Actually, come to think of it we got our site first, then met the guys at the pub)
Awoke this a.m. to bright sunshine - even more beautiful than yesterday, no rain overnight. We're having coffee now, having broken camp and gotten Henry re-organized. Today we plan to head for Rotorua!
