In Rotorua - a neat town. The drive here was also enjoyable - stopped at a GIANT KIWI & tasted kiwi wines & liqueurs. Finally reached this area of lakes. Walked around downtown Rotorua & purchased gorgeous, premium-sized double sheepskins - those things are GREAT! Got a campsite up at Blue Lake - a very pretty lake & campground, outside of the fact that a girls' school is spending the week there - we may go back on Friday as we intend to spend a good week here; lots to see & do. Jim got a fishing license that'll start on Saturday - in the meantime there are hot springs, thermal stuff, mud pools, the Agridome, a gondola ride, plenty of good tramps to take.

Right now Jim is fitting Henry with a new air filter and a new fuel filter and line - Henry should be feeling better; he was missing a bit yesterday.

LATER
Went to the thermal area called Whakarewarewa - amazing boiling mud pools, geysers, steaming (stinking!) ground! Pretty neat stuff, and like nothing I'd ever seen before! Both of us especially liked the mud pools!

Then we drove to the other side of town to the Agridome - and it was the most incredible experience! They give a show about sheep! We were there a bit early and got to look eye-to-eye at the sheep they had put in the little slots on either side of the stage - got to feed one, and the "host" of the show showed us thow deep the wool was, parting it to reach the skin, about 5-6" long!

We sat up front to watch the show - the sheep (19 breeds!) are "trained" to run up to their particular platform as they are released, one by one, and you get some history/info about each one. Then the host brought out a ewe and on a special platform, shears it with these electric clippers - amazing to see! Then he asked me (!) to come up on stage to try to find this magic spot in the sheep's "arm pit" that makes it kick its leg out. Impossible! But amusing.

At the end of the show you could have your picture taken with the sheep, which we did (got the 5x7 next day in town). We got a bite to eat there too, then chatted a bit more with the host. He'd also showed us how the dogs work the sheep, which was quite amazing (said a good sheep dog is worth $2,000).

After that we eventually made our way back up to the lakes and got a new campsite at Fisherman's Lodge up above Lake Tarawera.
