Drove Henry to Marahau carpark after packing up panniers. Loaded up the bike, locked the car, and rode off on the bike! Marathon hill climbs - made it up 9 miles of Takaka Hill in driving rain, wind. Rested at roadman's hut (shack) on way up, hoping for the rain to end, soaked, then continued up mountain - made it just beyond the peak, found even better roadman's hut with wood burning stove, wood, and water - spent the night there, thankfully, gleefully, drying off and warming up.
