Headed out for first real day of tramping! All gorgeous - took break at one beach area where we collected two pan fulls of mussels which we steamed up and ate for lunch! Met a "transplant", originally from N.Y., been here 17 years. Met a couple later on from Alabama, and one from Kansas. Pitched tent on a beach where we had to await low tide to cross to other side. Two other couples also spent night there - tide was out by 9-10 p.m., some went across, but we waited the night. Got tent up just in time before incredible, pouring rain storm - great to be inside! Visited later by possum (unidentified animal at the time!) - Went wading and exploring earlier as the tide poured out - billions of tiny shells, little crabs...!
